PAGE SIXTEEN
PANEL ONE: DAVE and his MOM watching TV. Dave is fidgety, crossing his legs on the couch.
NARR:
I couldn’t stop thinking about things all during supper, and TV time with mom.
PANEL TWO: Beads of sweat appear on DAVE’s forehead as he stares intensely, his face blushing.
NARR:
Couldn’t stop thinking about wetting my bed. Was I actually serious about going through with this?
PANEL THREE: DAVE looks over at his mom, but beyond her, he sees himself in a mirror.
NARR:
Mom would probably think I was being a big baby...but then I caught a look at myself in the mirror, and it hit me:
PANEL FOUR: DAVE posed beside his crib, as if for inspection (he’s imagining it).
NARR:
I’m eighteen. I still wear rubber pants. I still have accidents (of a different kind maybe, but still accidents). I sleep in a crib.
PANEL FIVE: DAVE’s MOM gives him a glass of chocolate milk.
NARR:
...and my mommy still gives me chocolate milk before bed.
PANEL SIX: DAVE realizes the truth: He’s a big baby.
NARR:
Holy crap. I was a big baby. For real, and I’d never even noticed it! But put all those things together and...wow.
